Oilers 2, Mighty Ducks 1

Ales Hemsky and the Oilers had most likely left the arena by the time they clinched a playoff spot.

The 22-year-old right-winger scored the winning goal with 34 seconds left in the third period as the Oilers earned a 2-1 win over Anaheim on Thursday night. The Oilers didn't lock up the last playoff spot in the Western Conference until the Vancouver Canucks lost 5-3 to the San Jose Sharks over an hour later.

"Huge win for the team," said Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish.

Red Wings 2, Oilers 0 (AP)

The Detroit Red Wings slowly skated to Manny Legace, tapping his pads with their sticks as if it was an ordinary victory -- not the one clinching the best record in the NHL. Legace made 29 saves and Kris Draper and Donald MacLean scored to help Detroit beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 on Tuesday night. The Presidents' Trophy-winning Red Wings, with 118 points, will have home-ice advantage throughout...

Oilers 3, Canucks 2

Optional

Steve Staios gave the Edmonton Oilers breathing room in the game and took it away from the Vancouver Canucks in the standings.

Staios scored the eventual winning goal early in third period Saturday night, helping the Oilers beat the Canucks 3-2 and salvage a win in the three-game series between the teams.

After losing to Vancouver in regulation on Tuesday and in a shootout on Thursday, Edmonton finished the set tied with the Canucks for seventh place in the Western Conference.

Oilers 4, Avalanche 3,SO

Not even a muffed shot on a shootout scoring attempt could ruin the spirits of Edmonton's Ryan Smyth.

Sergei Samsonov scored the lone shootout goal on the first attempt in the tiebreaker to help the Oilers beat Colorado 4-3 on Sunday night, leaving the Avalanche tied for first place in the Northwest Division.

After Samsonov scored, Edmonton's Michael Peca and Smyth failed to get the puck past Avalanche goalie Peter Budaj.

"We needed this one badly," Smyth said.

Rolston, Bouchard rally Wild past Oilers

Brian Rolston and Joel Bouchard each had a goal and assist in the third period as the Minnesota Wild came back to beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Wes Walz also scored for Minnesota, which won for just the second time in six games but earned a fourth straight win in Edmonton.

Sergei Samsonov, Jarret Stoll scored for Edmonton, which opened a four-game homestand by losing a third straight home game.

The Oilers, who outshot the Wild 25-16, have nine games remaining.

Wild 3, Oilers 2

Being the spoiler suits the Minnesota Wild just fine.

"Why not, you know?" right wing Pierre-Marc Bouchard said. "We want to try and make it harder for the other teams."

Bouchard scored the tying goal, and Brian Rolston got the winner in the third period as the 11th place Minnesota Wild came back to beat Edmonton 3-2 on Tuesday night. That prevented the third-place Oilers from gaining a share of the Northwest Division lead.
